Without a doubt, being alive and getting a chance to experience the marvel of Earth is a miracle. Nature has always been a source of inspiration and admiration for me. The vastness and intricate connection between living things and their ecosystems has always astounded me. I remember being young, looming over and watching ant colonies carry out their functions. I thought to myself we must be like them, only preoccupied with our specific role, running around chasing pheromones, completely oblivious to the much larger system we are apart of. Now that I’m a bit older, I can see more just how true that thought was. I realize I am apart of nature but, I know I could never learn to comprehend everything about it. Nowadays, I can’t help but feel that my role as an artist is just an attempt to replicate or worship the beauty and feelings brought about by the master work. Everything I see is a work of art. Every living creature is an animated sculpture, perfectly molded by the processes of evolution, embodied by the spirit of nature. Everywhere I go I am walking in a living breathing masterpiece composed by the unified all. We call it the universe.
This piece is in dedication to the relationship of my good friend Remington and his son River. Remington is a Leo and has always resonated with the lion, the king of the jungle. The lotus can be viewed as a symbol for birth, rising from the mud to blossom into a beautiful flower. Here Remington symbolically oversees and welcomes his son to the marvel of Earth and the experience of life.
